Simplifying a ratio

A ratio is simplified by dividing both sides by their greatest common divisor (GCD). For example, 8 : 12 has a GCD of 4, so it simplifies to 2 : 3.

Solving equivalent ratios

To find a missing value in A : B = C : D, cross-multiply. If you know three of the four values, the fourth is found by (B ร— C) รท A or the equivalent arrangement.
